Almond butter vs Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is one of my favorite things in life. It's my go to in ice cream, icing, and even along with its best friend grape jelly in sandwiches (on some long hikes). Pictured above on the left is almond butter that I made in my Blendtec alongside the peanut butter from my cupboard. The main difference between these two lies in the amount of ingredients and sugar content. The almond butter is simply one ingredient, raw almonds, and the peanut butter is made up of roasted peanuts, sugar, vegetable oil, and molasses. Subsequently my almond butter has zero grams of sugar per serving and the peanut butter has three grams of sugar in every two tablespoons. The dry roasted peanuts in the peanut butter (compared to the raw almonds used to make the almond butter) also carry additional fat and salt due to being cooked in vegetable oil. Think twice the next time you pick up that jar of peanut butter. Maybe using homemade almond butter is a wiser choice. Pair the almond butter with carrots prior to a workout or enjoy with an apple as a snack between lunch and dinner.
